Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil action drama Kabali on Tuesday entered the Rs 200 crore club and successfully became the second film after Enthiran to achieve the rare feat in the superstar’s career. “It’s the fastest south Indian film to rake in over Rs 200 crore at the box office worldwide in just five days. As on Tuesday, ‘Kabali‘ has grossed Rs205 crore and this includes the three languages in which the film was released,” trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
In India, in its opening weekend, the film minted over Rs 100 crore.
“In the domestic market, the film collected a whopping Rs 128 crore from the opening weekend. It’s the best ever opening for a south Indian film,” he said.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kabali narrates the story of a gangster’s shot at redemption and how he fights for equal pay rights for Tamils in Malaysia.
The Tamil film has been dubbed in other languages like Hindi, Telugu and Malay.
Sultan Crosses 290 Crores On Its 3rd Monday At The Box Office
Sultan has managed to survive well in its 3rd week at the box office. Salman Khan – Anushka Sharma starrer collected 1.30 crores yesterday and now stands with the grand total of 290.35 crores. It’ll be interesting to see whether Sultan will enter the 300 crore club or not. Till now PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan have scored more than 300 crores at the box office.
It is important for Sultan to remain steady in its 3rd week to come closer to 300 crore. Since Dishoom is releasing on Friday, Sultan will lose its maximum screens after that.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Sultan also stars Randeep Hooda, Amit Sadh and Kumud Mishra in supporting roles.
After a lot of speculation Rajkumar Santoshi confirmed the news that he will be working with Salman Khan in his next movie and it will be produced by Atul Agnihotri. But seems like the movie won’t go on floors any time soon. According to a leading daily, Rajkumar will now be directing a movie for Wave Cinemas which will be based on the Battle of Saragarhi. The movie will release on the birthday of the group Chairman Raju Chadhaji.
CEO of Wave Cinemas Rahul Mittra while speaking to the tabloid said that when they came to know that Rajkumar-Salman’s movie is not happening anytime soon they decided to approach Santoshi without wasting any time.
The mahurat shot of the movie will be on September 12.
Salman will be heading for the shooting of Tubelight by Kabir Khan from 28th July 2016. The Sultan star is also in talks for Kick 2 and Dabangg 3.
Sultan has taken the box office by storm. The sports-drama film has minted Rs 229.16 crores in 9 days, thus, setting new benchmarks for Bollywood.The Yash Raj Films production, which released on July 6 — a day before Eid — remained steady at the box office throughout the week.
